2011 Sheriff's Golf Classic was another huge success!
Thank you to all our sponsors and players!
The 2011 Pasco Sheriff's Golf Classic at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club was another huge success thanks to our sponsors and players. A beautiful day greeted the golfers as we played on the course for the seventh year in a row on Monday, November 7. Proceeds from the tournament will fund valuable youth programs through Pasco Sheriff's Charities, Inc. a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation.
This year's major fundraising recipient is the
Resource Room that will aid underprivileged children in the county. The
resource room is operated by Eckerd Community Alternatives and utilized by the
Pasco Sheriff’s Office’s Child Protection Investigations Unit and the Pasco
County Foster/Adoptive Parent Association.
Child
protection investigators review allegations of abused and neglected children and
often must take custody of these children before placing them in foster care.
These children often need clothing and basic hygiene items and this new
resource room is being stocked just for that purpose. These
items include children’s clothing, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, lice kits, door locks, lock boxes for medicine, back packs and school
supplies, diapers and baby items. The
room can also provide large items such as inflatable mattresses to those
families when the need arises. The room is not open to the public but is used to
support foster parents, and those children and families that our investigators
are assisting in their cases.
Some of the programs helped by the charity event in years past have included the Pasco Police Athletic League, Youth Services Program, Pasco Sheriff's Office Explorer's Post, Safety Town, and Gang Resistance Education and Training (GREAT).
The winning foursome in the best ball tournament with a score of 52 on the 72-par south course was Bright House Networks team of Pasco County , including Drew Gillan, Pasco County commissioner Jack Mariano, Dave Norka, and Mike Murphy:
